Effective August 1, 2008, the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) will require all contracted adult family homes to carry liability insurance.  The amount of liability insurance required will be $500,000 per incident and $1,000,000 aggregate.  The insurance must be placed with an insurance company with a Financial Stability Rating of “A” or better.

A Certificate of Insurance with the AFH License Number must be provided to DSHS with specific wording as follows:

“The State of Washington , Department of Social & health Services (DSHS), and elected and appointed officials, agents, and employees of the state, shall be named as additional insureds.”

We at PCALIC in partnership with PCH Mutual (the only insurance company to write only adult family homes and facilities excluding nursing homes) have met with DSHS and meet the requirements of WA DSHS  We are prepared to provide the necessary forms and documentation for AFH’s obtaining insurance through us immediately to DSHS.
